To love something is not the same as to like something

Goiânia, Brazil, June 2019

Suddenly the temperature in the air-conditioned room seems to be going up a couple of degrees. The topic of corruption obviously is touching the thirty participants of a training organizational constellations.

‘Corruption’ is not a word these people seem to use easily. So I put it in the air, explaining some systemic principles. Some years ago we did constellations on this topic in the capital Brasilia, in presence of participants working in the government.

‘If you want to do something about corruption, you need to understand it. If you want to understand it, you need to accept it’s existence. Or, actually, you need to embrace it and to love it. If you love it, you can from the inside out start to understand what corruption is trying to do in the world. You can start to feel in into the movement of corruption’.

Participants are partly shocked, some faces are lighting up, breath is kept or there are deep sighs of relief.

I slowly start to understand that there is often a big misunderstanding about this systemic principle of ‘accepting the world as it is, beyond judgements and beyond wanting to help’.

This type of love, so elegantly taught and practiced by Bert Hellinger, is a kind of very connected ánd at the same time detached love. But love it is! This is the type of love that brought us many new insights. Precision is love, and love is precision.

The misunderstanding is that to love corruption does not mean that you líke corruption. To love corruption means you’re not denying it’s existence, nor excluding those people who are practicing corruption.

But this doesn’t mean that you think corruption is something you like or should be a normal part of society.

This is an eye-opener for many participants!
