The foundation of systemic phenomenological work

CourseSystem Dynamics in Families

How we are shaped and the personal patterns that one can experience often is a result of hidden family loyalties and dynamics. These patterns and loyalties can lead to a wide range of personal issues that may continue across generations. This training helps you recognise and understand these dynamics and trains you as a systemic facilitator to support people in unravelling who they are from family systems perspective.

The training program System Dynamics in Families fully immerses you in systemic phenomenological work. You gain knowledge, experience, and insight into the core principles and dynamics within systems and learn how to support others in their development. The training helps you find a balance between phenomenological observation and theoretical knowledge.

For whom?

The training is intended for professionals who work with the functioning of systems, such as family systems and other social systems: doctors, psychologists, therapists, physiotherapists, social workers, teachers, coaches, trainers, organisational consultants, and anyone with a broad interest in the systemic field.

Purpose of the training

The program focuses on the three mechanisms, your role as a facilitator, and systemic insight into families. You will gain knowledge and experience regarding the principles and dynamics within systems. You will learn how to facilitate family constellations and further develop your role as a facilitator.

In addition to insight, knowledge, skills, and practical experience, systemic work and facilitating constellations also require a certain attitude and sensitivity. Throughout the training, attention is paid to all of these aspects.

The training focuses strongly on systemic work in family and personal contexts. We help you experience systemic work more deeply, integrate it within yourself, and apply it to personal issues. As a result, you will discover much about your own patterns, those of your family, and others around you. Despite this, the training is not a therapy group but a learning group. Its purpose is to understand dynamics within families and to learn how to facilitate family constellations in group – and one-to-one settings.

Since this training will host participants from many different countries, it will provide an opportunity to learn and exchange in an international atmosphere.

Please note: This international training is intended primarily for international participants, either living in the Netherlands and/or abroad.

Program

The program consists of three modules at the beautiful location of Olde Vechte Foundation in Ommen. In between these modules, there will be online sessions to stay connected and share your experiences in real life. The online sessions will be scheduled at a later stage following module 1 and module 2

The System Dynamics in Families training is divided into 3 modules of 6 days, 2 half day supervisions and 2 online days, in total 21 training days.

Module 1

  • Discovering the three mechanisms from your own perspective
The foundation of systemic phenomenological work lies in the three mechanisms: the unity mechanism, the system mechanism, and the evolutionary force. To truly experience these mechanisms and to explore your own personal themes as a facilitator the training begins here.
  • Systemic perception and the first steps in constellation facilitation
In constellation work, we make use of information that is often unconsciously stored within a client or family system. To access this information, we use systemic perception. We practise this in many different ways: in pairs and small groups, with the whole group, and within the first stages of a constellation. In doing so, you become aware of internal decision-making processes, questions, and implicit assumptions. You also learn to distinguish between the bodily responses of the client and your own.
  • Dynamics within families and interventions in constellations.
Dynamics within families are often a response to the opposing effects of the mechanisms. Such dynamics can continue for generations. During this module, we explore the most common foundational dynamics and practise working with them in smaller groups. Key questions include:

    • What are the symptoms of a dynamic?
    • How does it arise within a system?
    • How do you recognise it in a constellation?
    • What interventions are possible?

Module 2

  • Working methods in one-on-one settings
We focus on working in one-one-settings. Key questions include:

    • How do you work with floor anchors?
    • What possibilities are there when working with table constellations?
    • How does systemic coaching require different skills compared to facilitating a constellation?
    • What is needed for a constellation in the imagination?
  • Working with trauma and inner parts
As a constellation facilitator, you will regularly encounter trauma. This may involve family trauma or an individual traumatic experience of the client. How do you recognise it? And what is required of you -or what should you refrain from doing- as a facilitator? We explore the background of trauma and the skills it requires from you as a facilitator.

After this module, you will be asked to write a reflection report. This helps clarify where you stand within the training and how you relate to systemic work. Which direction do you wish to take: facilitating constellations, integrating systemic thinking into your professional practice, or mainly personal development? Together, we determine what you need during the final part of the training.

Module 3

  • Practice and supervision
Participants facilitate a guest client under the supervision of the trainer. There is extensive opportunity for practice, feedback, and feedforward regarding both your inner attitude and your practical skills. We revisit and deepen technical skills while refining process work. Using the constellations-work model, we determine which three pillars form the basis of your working style, helping you further develop your own unique approach.
  • Me and my facilitation
We fine-tune both the technical aspects and your facilitation skills. We also focus on integration and insight. Central questions include:

    • How does systemic work relate to your other fields of work, education, and background?
    • What integration questions arise between your professional and personal life?
    • Which dynamics in your family background may contribute to particular sensitivities when facilitating constellations?
    • Which aspects of facilitation feel close to you, and which feel more distant?

Online days

The online days serve to stay connected, share your experiences, trial & errors from real life practicing. We will also learn how to work with systemic awareness online and how to facilitate online systemic work.

Admission

After registration, we ask you to write a short motivation letter. Once we have received it, we will contact you to schedule an intake interview with one of the trainers.

The purpose of the intake interview is to explore whether the training truly suits you and whether you currently feel grounded enough to carry the personal processes that may arise during the training. In most cases, it becomes clear by the end of the conversation whether you wish to start. If you need more time to decide, you are of course welcome to indicate this.

Practical information

The modules are organized in full weeks, with one day of free time in the middle of the week. The working hours are usually during daytime and you will have the nights off.

At the training location you can book your overnight stay directly via [email protected] for very sharp prices. The accommodations are basic, clean and complete. Would you wish a more luxury place to stay, there are several options in walking distance of the venue.
