System Dynamics in Organizations
Introduction
Many people are already aware of how hidden family dynamics and trauma can influence people in their daily life. It is no different with organizational systems. An organization can be considered a ‘living being’ with it’s own dynamics that influence the people that work in it. System dynamics in organizations play an important role in the undercurrent and influence the patterns, vitality and flow in organizations. Sometimes these patterns and dynamics give wings and also they can be a hindrance in all kinds of situations. For example, when there is resistance or fear for change in the organization. Sometimes people seem unable or unwilling to keep pace with changes in the team or organization. Therefor in order to bring change, you need to understand the organization from systemic perspective. You need to be able to take a deep dive into the undercurrent.
The System Dynamics in Organizations program immerses you completely in systemic phenomenological work. You gain knowledge, experience and insight into the basic principles and dynamics in systems. You learn to feel systemic work, to integrate it into yourself and to take it with you to the world of organizational issues.
For whom?
The System Dynamics in Organizations course is aimed at people who are professionally involved with the functioning of systems in organizations, such as business owners, managers, internal and external consultants, trainers, corporate social workers, and others who care about development in organizations and work situations.
Purpose of the training
The System Dynamics in Organizations course focuses on the three mechanisms, your facilitation and leadership skills and insight into organizational systems. Knowledge and experience about the principles and dynamics in systems is offered. You learn how to facilitate organizational systemic explorations and grow in your role as a systemic facilitator and or leader.
The focus in this course is not only to learn to facilitate constellations, also much attention is paid to systemic work in organizations in a broader sense. And since you are the instrument in systemic facilitation and leadership, you will also take a dive into your personal system and patterns.
As systemic facilitator, you help organizations and the people within them grow. After completing this training, you will:
- be able to look at organizations and networks through the systemic lens
- be aware of the dynamics from your own background and the influence they have on your work or systemic facilitation
- be able to use your senses (including awareness) as an instrument
- be able to work from the systemic basic attitude from a clear own place
- be able to facilitate systemic explorations in an organizational context, both live/presential and online
- recognize common dynamics in teams, organizations and networks
- translate systemic knowledge and insights into exploratory questions and interventions, so that organizations/employees can better do what they are intended for
Since this training will host participants from many different countries, it will provide an opportunity to learn and exchange in an international atmosphere.
Please note: This international training is intented for international participants. For this reason there are limited places available for Dutch/Flemish participants. The price of participation for the Dutch/Flemish is equal to the price of the Dutch version of the training Systeemdynamieken in Organisatie. If, as Dutch / Flemish person, you would like to participate in this international training, please contact our office for more information.
Training program
The program consists of three modules (in January, May and September) in our beautiful nature oriented location Rolde in the Netherlands. In between these modules, there will be online sessions in March and August .
The System Dynamics in Organizations training is divided into 3 modules, 2 half day supervisions and 2 online days, in total 21 training days.
Module 1: Discovering the systemic phenomenological theory both from your own and organizational perspective
- We will explore the theory of personal and organizational dynamics by ways of sharing theoretical knowledge, experiencing and feeling this in exercises, and doing deep explorational work.
- Systemic phenomenologic observation, how to open the undercurrent and ways to system dynamics In a constellation we use information that is often unconsciously stored in a person or organizational system. To gain access to that information we use systemic phenomenologic observation. We practice that in many ways. In pairs and threes, with the entire group and in a first part of a constellation. Without doing injustice to the whole, the constellation process is divided into small units. This way you become aware of internal choice processes, questions and implicit assumptions. And you learn to distinguish between physical reactions of the client and yourself.
- Exploring systemic issues by doing starting interviews and setting up constellations. How to work with representatives? How to sense and ‘read’ the constellation and the clients’ reaction to it?
Module 2: Common organizational dynamics
You will learn which are common symptoms and dynamics in organizations. Important questions are:
- What does a symptom, such as resistance, try to achieve? How to find the hidden loyalties that hinder progress in the organization? Where and when the dynamics arise? How do the systemic principles work in organizations?
- What do these dynamics tell us and what are steps to get past these dynamics? You learn to recognize dynamics in the actual organization and in the constellation. Also you will gain insight into possible interventions both in constellations and in the organization itself. You are very welcome to bring your most complex actual cases for systemic exploration.
- The set-up; the actual set-up of a constellation. The steps in the constellation proces, the possible types of interventions, the movement of representatives, the supervision of process work. We try to answer the main questions: What does the gestalt tell us? What is ‘the truth’ that wants to come to light here? We practice with your cases and with those of guestclients.
- Working methods and setting Part 1. For a team you can work with a ‘classic’ diagnostic constellation. But there are more possibilities. We will discuss the different application areas of systemic work in organizations. These days are focused on practice, from application to implementation. We focus on the following questions and choices:
- Which working methods and set-ups can you choose for a team?
- What can you include or exclude in the contract with the client?
- Which setting is suitable?
- Do you work with the entire team or without the team?
- Do you use external representatives?
- Systemic Nature with horses (1 day). In the reflection of the horses we can coincide with lessons from nature. During this day we will look at our own facilitatorship through the eyes of the horse.
Module 3: Working methods and setting Part 2
- Different constellation formats and working in a one-on-one setting without representatives. Learning to recognize organizational trauma and how to facilitate integration of historical traumatic events. How to do proceswork in a constellation and how to apply this proceswork in organizations.
- Practice and supervision. In this module, participants guide a guest client under the supervision of the teacher. There is plenty of opportunity to practice and feedback and feedforward on your inner attitude and your skills. We repeat and deepen the technical skills and sharpen the process work.
- Me and my facilitatorship / leadership . In this last part of the third module we dot the i's and cross the t's. On the technique and on your facilitatorship. In addition, we focus on integration and insights. How does systemic work relate to other fields of work, education and backgrounds of yours? Which integration questions of professional life and private life still arise? Which dynamics in the family background have played a role and can give rise to a certain sensitivity when guiding constellations?
Online days
Working online has become an indispensable part of our society. This also applies to guiding organizational constellations, coaching, or following or giving webinars. On these two days you will learn how to observe and facilitate in an online setting. Also there will be space to bring in your questions and cases that come up in between the training modules.
Registration
Upon your registration we will ask you to send us an email, describing:
- A brief motivation why you want to participate.
- A short overview of your professional background and current work.
- Your experience with constellation work so far (days of workshops, trainings in family or organizational constellations).
After we received your motivation into this program, we will contact you to schedule a Zoom meeting in small groups with one of our trainers. This will enable us to meet you, to get to know you and to answer questions you might have.
